परिचय:
महाभारत में अर्जुन केवल एक महान धनुर्धर ही नहीं थे, बल्कि वे भगवान शिव के महान भक्त भी थे। उनकी तपस्या, भक्ति और समर्पण ने उन्हें भगवान शिव से पाशुपतास्त्र जैसा शक्तिशाली अस्त्र दिलवाया।
कहानी:
कुरुक्षेत्र युद्ध से पहले अर्जुन को शक्तिशाली अस्त्रों की आवश्यकता थी। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के कहने पर वे हिमालय में भगवान शिव की आराधना करने गए।
उन्होंने एक वृक्ष के नीचे खड़े होकर कठोर तपस्या शुरू की। एक पैर पर खड़े होकर, बिना भोजन-पानी के उन्होंने शिवजी का ध्यान किया।
भगवान शिव उनकी भक्ति से प्रसन्न हुए लेकिन उनकी परीक्षा लेना चाही। वे एक किरात (शिकारी) के रूप में पार्वती के साथ प्रकट हुए।
उसी समय एक जंगली सूअर (जो वास्तव में एक राक्षस था) अर्जुन की ओर दौड़ा। अर्जुन और किरात दोनों ने एक ही समय पर बाण चलाया और सूअर को मार डाला।
इसके बाद दोनों में विवाद हुआ कि सूअर को किसने मारा। अर्जुन ने किरात को युद्ध की चुनौती दी। घोर युद्ध हुआ, लेकिन अर्जुन किरात को हराने में असमर्थ रहे।
थके और निराश अर्जुन ने मिट्टी से शिवलिंग बनाया और भगवान शिव की प्रार्थना की।
तभी उन्होंने देखा कि जो फूल उन्होंने शिवलिंग पर चढ़ाए थे, वे किरात के सिर पर दिखाई दिए।
अर्जुन को सच्चाई का अहसास हुआ और उन्होंने तुरंत शिवजी के चरणों में प्रणाम किया। शिवजी ने अपना असली रूप दिखाया और पाशुपतास्त्र का वरदान देकर उन्हें आशीर्वाद दिया।
शिक्षा:
अर्जुन की कथा सिखाती है कि भक्ति, विनम्रता और दृढ़ संकल्प से ही भगवान की कृपा प्राप्त होती है। वीरता के साथ भक्ति भी जरूरी है।
