भक्ति अगर अहंकार और लोभ से भरी हो, तो वह विनाश का कारण बन जाती है। भस्मासुर की कथा एक ऐसा उदाहरण है जिसमें भक्ति तो थी, लेकिन उद्देश्य गलत था, और परिणाम भी विनाशकारी हुआ।
कहानी:
प्राचीन काल में भस्मासुर नामक एक राक्षस था। उसने अमरता प्राप्त करने की इच्छा से भगवान शिव की घोर तपस्या की।
शिव जी उसकी तपस्या से प्रसन्न हुए और बोले – “मांगो जो चाहो।”
भस्मासुर ने कहा:
“मुझे ऐसा वरदान दो कि मैं जिसके सिर पर हाथ रखूं, वह तुरंत भस्म हो जाए।”
भगवान शिव ने उसे यह वरदान दे दिया।
वरदान मिलते ही भस्मासुर के मन में अहंकार आ गया। उसने सोचा –
“क्यों न मैं शिव पर ही यह प्रयोग करूं और स्वयं सबसे शक्तिशाली बन जाऊं।”
वह भगवान शिव का पीछा करने लगा ताकि उन्हें भस्म कर सके।
शिव जी संकट में पड़ गए और भगवान विष्णु से सहायता मांगी। विष्णु जी ने एक सुंदर स्त्री का रूप लिया – मोहिनी।
मोहिनी ने भस्मासुर को नृत्य करने की चुनौती दी। भस्मासुर उसकी सुंदरता पर मोहित हो गया और नृत्य प्रतियोगिता स्वीकार कर ली।
मोहिनी ने सुंदर नृत्य किया और हर मुद्रा में भस्मासुर को अपनी नकल करने को कहा। अंत में उसने अपने सिर पर हाथ रखा, और भस्मासुर ने भी वैसा ही किया।
वह तुरंत भस्म हो गया।
