परिचय:
भगवान शिव के 63 नायनार भक्तों में चंडेश्वर एक ऐसा नाम है जिसे केवल एक भक्त के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि शिव मंदिरों के संरक्षक के रूप में भी पूजा जाता है। उनकी कहानी भक्ति, सेवा और धर्म की रक्षा का अद्भुत उदाहरण है।
कहानी:
चंडेश्वर का जन्म तिरुचेगड़ी (तमिलनाडु) के एक ब्राह्मण परिवार में हुआ था। बचपन से ही उनमें भगवान शिव के प्रति अत्यधिक प्रेम और भक्ति थी।
जहां बच्चे खेलते, वहीं चंडेश्वर रेत से शिवलिंग बनाकर पूजा करते, बेलपत्र चढ़ाते और जल से अभिषेक करते।
एक दिन गाय चराते समय उन्होंने गायों के दूध से रेत के शिवलिंग का अभिषेक किया। इससे गांव में बात फैल गई और उनके पिता को क्रोध आया।
पिता वहां आए और देखा कि उनका बेटा दूध शिवलिंग पर चढ़ा रहा है। उन्होंने गुस्से में शिवलिंग को लात मारी। यह देखकर चंडेश्वर क्रोधित हो गए और उन्होंने लकड़ी (या कुल्हाड़ी) से पिता के पैर पर वार किया, जो तुरंत पत्थर का बन गया।
इसी क्षण भगवान शिव प्रकट हुए और चंडेश्वर से बोले:
“तुम्हारी भक्ति सच्ची और निर्भीक है। आज से तुम मेरे रक्षक हो। जो कोई मुझे अर्पण करेगा, वह पहले तुम्हें समर्पित होगा।”
तब से हर शिव मंदिर में चंडेश्वर की मूर्ति होती है, जहां भक्त उन्हें प्रणाम करते हैं। मंदिर से बाहर निकलते समय पीठ नहीं दिखाते, बल्कि श्रद्धा से पीछे मुड़कर प्रणाम करते हैं।
शिक्षा:
चंडेश्वर की कथा सिखाती है कि सच्ची भक्ति केवल पूजा नहीं, बल्कि सम्मान और साहस में भी होती है। जब बात ईश्वर के अपमान की हो, तब धर्म की रक्षा करना भी भक्ति का रूप है।
विरासत:
दक्षिण भारत में चंडेश्वर का मंदिरों में विशेष स्थान है। लोग उनके सामने ताली बजाकर कहते हैं:
“मैंने शिव का कुछ नहीं लिया।”
